THE City of Greater Geelong is continuing to put together a medium-to-long-term vision and objectives for a more connected, inclusive, and sustainable transport network across the municipality, and is calling for public feedback and suggestions.<\/p>\n

Submissions to phase 3 of the Integrated Transport Strategy (ITS), which will focus on opportunities to improve and encourage public transport for local trips and also the role private vehicles play in the broader transport network, close later this month.<\/p>\n

Phase 2, held from April to May, focused on active travel. Results showed people are more likely to walk or ride for everyday trips if infrastructure is safer, better connected, and supported by secure bike and scooter parking.<\/p>\n

Almost all participants (98 per cent) agree that children should be able to walk and ride to and from school, but key barriers to active travel included safety concerns, travel time, and weather.<\/p>\n

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said it was vital to gather feedback from those who live, work, visit and move through the municipality.<\/p>\n

“With our population set to surge past 400,000 by 2041, we need to get our city’s transport future back on track.<\/p>\n

“I hope this strategy will become a visionary document revolutionising transport for our residents and the many more that will someday call our region home.”<\/p>\n

Deputy mayor Ron Nelson encouraged residents to share their ideas.<\/p>\n

“Let us know what would make public transport work better for you in Greater Geelong,” Cr Nelson said.<\/p>\n

“We need to work together to build a fast, reliable and connected transport system that supports active lifestyles and access to jobs, education and services.”<\/p>\n

Submissions to phase 3 close on September 25.<\/p>\n

The final ITS is expected to be adopted by the council in mid to late 2026, following a draft release for community feedback in early 2026.<\/p>\n
