THE City of Greater Geelong and Barwon Coast have formalised their long-running partnership, signing a new agreement to guide how the foreshore between Collendina and Breamlea is managed.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, the two organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that sets out which entity is responsible for maintaining specific assets and delivering services along the foreshore.<\/p>\n
Historically, these responsibilities have been informally shared between the two organisations.<\/p>\n
The MoU also acknowledges the role of Barwon Coast as the delegated committee of management for the area.<\/p>\n
Barwon Coast chair Sandy Gatehouse said the agreement is a “great example” of what can be achieved when organisations work collaboratively with a shared vision.<\/p>\n
“By formalising our partnership with the city, we’re ensuring the coast is cared for in a coordinated and sustainable way, delivering better long- and short-term outcomes for the environment and our community,” she said.<\/p>\n
Barwon Coast chief executive Gareth Smith said the land management body was proud to formalise what has been a “productive and collaborative partnership” with the city.<\/p>\n
“This agreement not only clarifies current responsibilities but also opens the door to future opportunities where we can work together to improve environmental outcomes and community services,” he said.<\/p>\n
The agreement also locks in regular meetings between senior leaders, including the Barwon Coast chair and Geelong councillor Elise Wilkinson, whose Connewarre Ward takes in the foreshore between Collendina and Breamlea.<\/p>\n
“Our coastal environment is one of our region’s most treasured assets,” Ms Wilkinson said.<\/p>\n
“This agreement strengthens our ability to protect and enhance it through collaboration, shared knowledge and a united approach to land management.”<\/p>\n
The MoU will be reviewed annually.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
