{"id":110121,"date":"2025-10-01T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-30T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=110121"},"modified":"2025-09-25T13:05:05","modified_gmt":"2025-09-25T03:05:05","slug":"defining-moments-caught-on-camera","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/living\/defining-moments-caught-on-camera\/","title":{"rendered":"Defining moments caught on camera"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Widely respected snow and surf photographer Tony &#8216;Harro&#8217; Harrington will be sharing some amazing snippets from his life behind the lens in Torquay next month.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian extreme sports documenter will be releasing his new book Defining Moments at XTM in Torquay on October 2.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/10\/KaiLenny_161211TH631_88626.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kai Lenny pulling into a deep tube.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Defining Moments is a 1,352-page coffee table book containing 25 chapters of stories of surf and snow from around the world.<\/p>\n<p>The book is a product of the pandemic, a time where Harrington could no longer travel and had to put the passport away after 40 years of adventuring.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/10\/JamieSterling_Teahup_88625.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jamie Sterling at Teahupo\u02bbo.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Starting with a two-week hotel quarantine, he organised and reviewed his life&#8217;s work, delving into thousands of digital images and boxes of slides.<\/p>\n<p>He said the book got its name very easily, with the title referencing the many photographs, and the stories behind them, that have shaped his life in various ways.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It probably would not have happened if it wasn&#8217;t for the lockdown. Once I got over the stress of having my world shrink and everything grind to a halt, I realised it was my chance to finally dive into my archives and pull together a book.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/10\/IanWalsh_Jaws_88664.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"416\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ian Walsh surfing at Jaws.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The book is all about the incredible fraction of a second that makes a great photo and also the highs and lows that happen around that brief moment caught by my lens.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am proud of every image in there and figured if I was going to do it, I wanted to make it the best I could.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said life behind the lens had come with its hardships, and choosing a lifestyle contrary to what society deems as normal had been, at times, very difficult.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/10\/SageCattabrigaAlosa__88643.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sage Cattabriga-Alosa boosts into the sky.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s an emotional roller coaster that promises euphoric highs that come with some crushing lows,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For me, it&#8217;s the constant search for a balance that I find between the ocean and the mountains that gives my life meaning.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Then occasionally there are brief moments when I feel like I grasp that magic. That&#8217;s what these photographs are.
