NEWTOWN & Chilwell have further stamped their authority, defeating St Joseph’s for the second straight year to secure the 2025 GNL A Grade premiership.<\/p>\n
The Eagles held their lead at every break to win by 12 points, making it an incredible nine flags from 11 straight Grand Final appearances.<\/p>\n
Joeys beat the side just a fortnight ago in the first semi-final, giving them plenty of hope to knock the reining premiers off their perch.<\/p>\n
A tight first quarter saw Joeys claw back from a seven-point deficit early to bring the scores to 7-11 at the break, thanks to three goals in just over a minute from gun shooter Ella Closter.<\/p>\n
Another goal from Closter in the second quarter tied the scores at 15 apiece with seven and a half minutes to go. But, three goals from Eagles shooter Mikaela Vaughan gave her side a three-point lead at the main break.<\/p>\n
The third quarter saw Newtown & Chilwell hold their rivals to just four goals, while they piled on eight of their own to push their lead out to seven points heading into the final term.<\/p>\n
The Eagles pushed on in the fourth to secure the premiership-claiming 37-25 win in rainy conditions.<\/p>\n
For the premiers, Vaughan scored 21 goals, while superstar Julia Woolley contributed 16.<\/p>\n
Earlier this week, Woolley was recognised for her stellar career with the A Grade Best and Fairest award named in her honour.<\/p>\n
Eagles defender Charity Nasalio was awarded the inaugural Olivia Cameron Medal for best on court, thanks to a shutdown role that held Closter to just 18 goals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
