BARWON Heads and District Pony Club has taken another leap forward in Project Revitalise with the help of a local business.<\/p>\n
The club is on a mission to get its cross-country course up and running and following a working bee, was left with more than 70 tyres on the grounds.<\/p>\n
Ranging from general passenger vehicle tyres to SUVs and truck tyres, volunteers were looking for ways to remove them, however it was estimated to cost around $20 per tyre.<\/p>\n
Club volunteer and mum Debbie Moore said it was adding up to be a huge cost and started reaching out to different tyre places when Clinton from Lewis Tyrepower in Belmont answered her call.<\/p>\n
“From there, he said as an organisation we would love to be involved in the community, and we certainly want to help a club that is community focused and it’s for the youth and young riders.<\/p>\n
“He spoke with his head office at Tyrepower and then it snowballed from there, with everyone jumping on board to help us.”<\/p>\n
With Clinton’s support, a truck from ELT Recycling in Melbourne arrived at the club, loading all the tyres and removing them from the property.<\/p>\n
The help from the local business means the money the club has raised in the past year wasn’t spent on tyre removal and can now go towards further improvements.<\/p>\n
As a not-for-profit organisation, the club is run largely by volunteers, with the support of local businesses making a huge impact.<\/p>\n
Ms Moore said to get the support from Lewis Tyrepower was quite surprising given how time poor people are.<\/p>\n
“A lot of businesses in Geelong are doing it tough at the moment, so it was really refreshing to have somebody that wasn’t just offering the help, but that was really proactive in doing it.<\/p>\n
“Clinton went above and beyond. I was talking with him every day, he was really advocating with Tyrepower head office.<\/p>\n
“Clinton kept going down, driving in his own time, coming to Barwon Heads, looking at what needed to be done, doing the liaising.”<\/p>\n
As the club continues with its project, they are looking for more businesses to get behind them.<\/p>\n
