KELLY THOMAS studied textiles design in Melbourne and completed a module that’s sole purpose was to create a realistic solution to the textiles and waste problems in Australia.<\/p>\n
She went on to design, on paper, a circular formula around a compostable T-shirt with the environment, animals and people at the forefront of the design.<\/p>\n
Each step of its creation, from design to production, has been mindful of the planet’s wellbeing, considering the impact manufacturing a T-shirt has on people, animals and the environment.<\/p>\n
Recycling, while a step in the right direction, only scratches the surface of textile waste, with the majority ending up in landfills or shipped across borders.<\/p>\n
Thomas has devised a tangible solution to the textile waste issue here in Australia. By using natural fibres like hemp and organic cotton, removing polyester and chemicals where possible from the process, she has formulated a method that renders the garment compostable, ready to return to the earth’s soil.<\/p>\n
Thomas’ focus as a designer is on The Compostable T- Shirt, removing harsh chemicals where possible, composting all its waste, pushing boundaries and solving production problems.<\/p>\n
