{"id":111702,"date":"2025-10-27T16:28:49","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T05:28:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/dog-pulled-from-aireys-cliff-in-high-stakes-rescue\/"},"modified":"2025-10-27T16:28:49","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T05:28:49","slug":"dog-pulled-from-aireys-cliff-in-high-stakes-rescue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/dog-pulled-from-aireys-cliff-in-high-stakes-rescue\/","title":{"rendered":"Dog pulled from Aireys cliff in high stakes rescue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A DOG has had a lucky escape in Aireys Inlet over the weekend after finding itself stranded on a cliff in Sunday\u2019s wild weather.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency crews from the SES, CFA and Fire Rescue Victoria were called to the high stakes rescue after the dog found itself stuck on a narrow ledge about 5m down the cliff face.<\/p>\n<p>Aireys Inlet CFA 1st Lieutenant Andrew Wilson said rescuers faced slippery terrain, thunder and heavy rain as they worked to bring the dog to safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were concerned about the weather. There was a bit of thunder around, so that was another thing we were conscious of.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe waited for the high angle rescue team to get there\u2026 and they worked out a plan and got one of their members down to abseil just that 4 or 5m. [They made] a quick grab and away they went.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_173413\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-173413\" style=\"width: 599px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-173413 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/10\/572783979_1016326622_09537-768x1024.jpg?_t=1761542863\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"798\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-173413\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The dog was stranded for two hours about 5m down the cliff on a narrow ledge while emergency crews worked to bring it to safety. Photo: FACEBOOK\/CELIA MEEHAN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After two tense hours, the dog was pulled to safety and reunited with its relieved owners \u2014 cold, muddy, but unharmed.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Wilson said Sunday&#8217;s conditions made the operation particularly difficult.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That day, the weather wasn\u2019t helping at all. It was pretty wet and muddy and slippery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The main consideration for us, it\u2019s just keeping everyone, including the public, well away until the high angle rescue team from Geelong got there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the storm and slick cliffs, Mr Wilson said the rescue went as smoothly as possible thanks to teamwork and quick thinking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this case, it was nice and close to the road, which made it a lot easier, particularly in the weather.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A DOG has had a lucky escape in Aireys Inlet over the weekend after finding itself stranded on a cliff in Sunday\u2019s wild weather.
