PERSISTENT rain and chilly winds made for a tough day on the Portarlington foreshore on Sunday, but the Hooked on Bellarine Festival still managed to reel in some determined visitors.<\/p>\n

Although conditions forced an early finish, visitors enjoyed a taste of the region’s fishing and seafood culture through hands-on clinics, live demonstrations and local produce tastings.<\/p>\n

Victorian Fisheries Authority events and engagement manager Belinda Yim said it was great to see people turning out despite the rain.<\/p>\n

“It was great to see families rug up, grab an umbrella and enjoy the festivities at Hooked on Bellarine,” she said.<\/p>\n

“While the weather cut things short, those who braved the rain had a great time celebrating all things fishing.”<\/p>\n

Younger participants took the opportunity to wet a line in fishing clinics run by Fishcare Victoria, while fishing simulators, science displays and aquaculture tastings drew plenty of interest.<\/p>\n

“Seafood paella with local mussel provided a delicious warming lunch for many and cooking demonstrations were a hit too,” Yim added.<\/p>\n
