{"id":111889,"date":"2025-10-31T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=111889"},"modified":"2025-10-30T09:33:10","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T22:33:10","slug":"bromleys-pinot-judged-the-best","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/bromleys-pinot-judged-the-best\/","title":{"rendered":"Bromley&#8217;s Pinot judged the best"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Australian Pinot Noir Challenge has crowned a local winemaker as the best in the Geelong region, following the 2025 competition.<\/p>\n<p>Located on the Bellarine, Bromley Wines owner Darren Burke received the trophy for his Bromley 2024 Harrison Pinot Noir.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Burke said any award win in the industry was a huge achievement considering how many good wines were on the market.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have been fortunate to win a number of trophies over the last decade at a local and national level, making wines for Leura Park and Yes Said The Seal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The win this year, in particular, is very special as the fruit comes from Richard &#8220;Chip&#8221; and Margo Harrison at Marcus Hill Vineyard.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/10\/0G2A2767_36030.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"899\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The wines are all made from locally grown fruit.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With significant sadness, Chip passed away late in 2024, so to achieve this trophy with the last fruit he had tended and cared for is incredibly personal and meaningful.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The challenge itself also holds a special place in the winemaker&#8217;s heart. He took out the inaugural challenge in 2016 with his Yes Said The Seal Pinot Noir.<\/p>\n<p>Winemakers across Australia are invited to enter the awards, with wines judged within their allocated groups. The regions and finalists are often made up of gold medal winning wines.<\/p>\n<p>Made using locally grown fruit, the Bromley 2024 Harrison Pinot was chosen for its structure and poise, as well as its depth, elegance and restraint.<\/p>\n<p>Early on in Burke&#8217;s winemaking career he knew he wanted to establish his own brand, and over a drink with his wife Tammy, he decided to push the boundaries.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/10\/0G2A2773_36050.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Burke said the award is a huge achievement within the industry.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Fermenting whites on skins, super extended time on skins for reds, the use of terracotta vessels \u2014 these are an example of what having Bromley has allowed me to do.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Bromley Wines should be about texture, structure, fragrance and fruit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As he looks to the future, Burke&#8217;s goal is to continue making wines that people enjoy drinking and gently push the boundaries with his creativity.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, head to the Australian Pinot Noir Challenge Facebook Page.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Australian Pinot Noir Challenge has crowned a local winemaker as the best in the Geelong region, following the 2025 competition.
