THE Bellarine Peninsula Basketball Association will use recently announced funding to help celebrate local athlete achievements and launch a women\u2019s team.<\/p>\n
The association is one of 23 community sporting organisations across the state set to benefit from the state government\u2019s Change Our Game Community Activation Grants.<\/p>\n
The association will host a \u201cGirls got Game Celebration\u201d which recognises the achievements of the Bellarine\u2019s state and national performing athletes and to also celebrate the launch of the inaugural Country Basketball League Bellarine women\u2019s team.<\/p>\n
\u201cSporting clubs play a huge role in shaping community values, addressing cultural change, and enriching our community,\u201d Bellarine MP Lisa Neville said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s important we\u2019re able to provide opportunities for women and girls throughout the Bellarine looking to take on leadership positions and give back to our community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Neville welcomed the announcement, and congratulated the Bellarine Peninsula Basketball Association on its successful bid.<\/p>\n
The Change Our Game Community Activation Grants are designed to support community sport and active recreation organisations to deliver events and forums that celebrate the role of women and girls and further gender equality at the local level.<\/p>\n
The grants are part of the Labor government\u2019s $241.6 million commitment to level the playing field for women and girls in sport and recreation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
