THE Cats have gone down to Carlton in Round 2 of the Premier Women Firsts competition on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Geelong won the toss and elected to bowl in extremely hot conditions, allowing 79 runs before Sarah Burton struck with the first wicket for her side.<\/p>\n
However, Blues batter Jasmine Nevins came in third and made an unbeaten 108 runs, propelling her side to an imposing 5\/287 after 50 overs. Charli McLennan also made 49 not out for the away side.<\/p>\n
Geelong were unable to get going with the bat, with a late surge from Carlton’s bowling attack seeing the home side all out for just 115 after 27.5 overs. Annie Taylor top scored for the Cats with 21 runs.<\/p>\n
The Seconds also took on the Blues and defended their total of 7\/205 successfully to take their fifth win of the season. Caitlin Burnett made an unbeaten 67 for the Cats, while Ruby Couch took five wickets and led the way as they bowled the Blues out for just 174.<\/p>\n
Geelong’s Thirds could not chase down Carlton’s 183 and were handed their second loss of the season. The Blues batted first and made 9\/183, however the Cats were skittled for just 86 runs in the 27th over.<\/p>\n
The Firsts will have a bye this weekend, while the Seconds will travel to take on Essendon at Maribyrnong Park. The Thirds will take on Greenvale at Kardinia Park this Sunday, November 9.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
