THE Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate Action (DEECA) is currently making repairs to the Point Lonsdale seawall.<\/p>\n
With sections constructed in the 1930s, the wall has been subjected to ongoing wave energy which has contributed to deterioration in the structure.<\/p>\n
Located across from the Point Lonsdale foreshore playground, works will involve installing temporary props to support the wall before demolition and reconstruction.<\/p>\n
“The seawall protects various assets adjacent to the foreshore, including public roads, the playground, and the Crown land reserve,” a DEECA spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
“Repairs will make the seawall safe for the public and allow it to continue protecting the surrounding area from coastal hazards.”<\/p>\n
Barriers have been in place since severe weather lashed the region in August and September, which caused further cracking to sections.<\/p>\n
During the repairs, traffic management will be in place and some temporary pedestrian closures will be enforced between Williams Road and the southern end.<\/p>\n
Road users may experience some minor delays and changes to beach access.<\/p>\n
“We thank the community for their understanding and respecting closures while we complete<\/p>\n
this important work and encourage people to keep notifying us of any damage to seawalls,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
Works are expected to take three to four weeks, depending on weather conditions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
