FIVE gardens across Point Lonsdale will welcome visitors for this year’s edition of Open Gardens Around the Borough on November 22.<\/p>\n

Hosted by Uniting Queenscliff, each garden is unique, ranging from a heritage homestead through to bush sanctuaries.<\/p>\n

Queenscliff-Point Lonsdale Uniting Church community engagement coordinator Lisa Quinney said it’s the different displays that make this year’s gardens stand out.<\/p>\n

“Some are really natural and with indigenous plants and native plants, we’ve got bird watching and really beautiful views to enjoy.<\/p>\n

“There’s a lot of different gardens on offer where you can get inspired of what you might want to do at home or just be curious about how other people have created their gardens.<\/p>\n

Suma Park is part of this year’s displays, featuring views across Swan Bay and The Rip, the homestead showcases expansive lawns, climbing roses, manicured hedges and historic stables.<\/p>\n

Biodiversity and sustainability will be celebrated at a Bush Garden for Wildlife with an indigenous and productive garden providing food and shelter for animals and humans.<\/p>\n

Without a lawn, the property’s native grasses, shrubs, trees and wildflowers are a hive for local wildlife and the ponds attract insects, frogs and birds.<\/p>\n

In Mia and Ken’s Garden, visitors can experience the twisting paths and leafy archways, taking them to sunken gardens.<\/p>\n

Wirilda by the Lake showcases restored Moonah Woodland, leading people along the walking tracks as they take in the regenerating landscape that supports more than 100 bird species.<\/p>\n

Finally, Kirks Place will welcome people into a community garden featuring vegetable beds, flowers and peaceful places, all cared for by local volunteers.<\/p>\n

Each garden will offer its own unique charm with some hosting plant stalls, Devonshire teas, coffee, slices, book stalls and more.<\/p>\n

While acting as a fundraiser for the church, the Open Gardens is also an event for people to come together in the community.<\/p>\n

Ms Quinney said while people were enjoying the gardens, they could also make some new connections and learn something new.<\/p>\n

“Hopefully they just have fun being out there in the community and discovering new gardens in where they live, their surrounds.”<\/p>\n
