THE recent Regional Export Roadshow, hosted by the City of Greater Geelong, reminded me just how strong our local business community really is.<\/p>\n

There was a real energy in the room and a sense that Geelong and the Bellarine are ready to take our products, ideas and creativity to the world.<\/p>\n

Delivered by Global Victoria, the workshop brought together trade specialists, Victorian Commissioners and local industry leaders to help regional exporters plan their next global move.<\/p>\n

It was fantastic to see so many passionate and forward-thinking representatives from our local industries, all focused on how to grow their operations internationally.<\/p>\n

The International Markets export workshop combined the global knowledge of Victorian Commissioners and practical guidance, led by Victorian Commissioner to Europe (Ireland, the Nordics and Eastern Europe) Tim Dillon, and Director at ICAL International Customs and Logistics Mark Coleman.<\/p>\n

The event provided a comprehensive overview of the current global trade landscape with real-time market intelligence.<\/p>\n

Speakers shared international market insights, macroeconomic trends and consumer behaviours along with tools and resources available from Regional Development Victoria and the TradeStart network.<\/p>\n

It’s great to see the Victorian Government continuing to invest in regional export capability through the $10 million Growing Regional Food and Fibre Exports Program.<\/p>\n

Here on the Bellarine, we have an incredible mix of producers, manufacturers and makers who are already known for their quality and innovation.<\/p>\n

From the fertile farmland around Drysdale and Wallington to the creative small businesses dotted across the Bellarine, our region has all the right ingredients for export success.<\/p>\n

Food manufacturing now accounts for almost a fifth of the more than 10,000 manufacturing jobs across Greater Geelong, and that number keeps growing.<\/p>\n

To build on this momentum, the City is working closely with the Geelong Manufacturing Council to establish a Food and Agribusiness Network that will help local industries to develop markets and capitalise on export opportunities across the globe.<\/p>\n

We’re also strengthening our international partnerships through initiatives such as our strategic memorandum of understanding with the Australia India Business Council, and another with the State of Louisiana, New Orleans World Trade Centre and Advanced Fibre Cluster Geelong.<\/p>\n

These agreements establish frameworks for collaboration aimed at fostering economic growth, promoting business engagement and unlocking new opportunities for enterprises both here and abroad.<\/p>\n

Victoria’s exporters are already performing well, reaching more than $20 billion in food and fibre exports in 2023-24 and accounting for 27 per cent of Australia’s national total.<\/p>\n

Events like the Regional Export Roadshow ensure our local businesses are part of that success story and are confident to compete on a global stage.<\/p>\n

The City of Greater Geelong also provides year-round business support through free drop-in sessions, mentoring and its Business Concierge service, helping small businesses start, manage and grow.<\/p>\n
