ONE of the Bellarine Peninsula’s longest running and most loved summer traditions will be making its return to the shores of Point Lonsdale this festive season.<\/p>\n

The 37th edition of the Rip View Swim Classic will take place on December 28 as hosted by the Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club.<\/p>\n

More than 1,000 swimmers are anticipated to take to Port Phillip Bay and feature in three race distances – 600m, 1.4km and 3.8km.<\/p>\n

Early bird registrations opened for the race on November 1, with uptake already strong in the first few weeks of entries opening.<\/p>\n

Race director Liam Petrie-Albutt said the focus moving forward would be to grow the event’s profile while maintaining its community spirit.<\/p>\n

“This year’s event is about consolidating what makes the event special.<\/p>\n

“Over future years, we’re excited to grow participation, involve more community groups, and build an event that truly celebrates the coastline, the town, and the people who make it what it is.”<\/p>\n

Point Lonsdale SLSC president Michael Doery said the swim has an important role beyond the beach.<\/p>\n

“This event brings people to the Bellarine, supports local businesses and strengthens community connection.<\/p>\n

“As we grow the Rip View Swim Classic over the coming years, we’ll be working closely with local organisations, clubs and tourism partners to ensure the event continues to benefit the whole community.”<\/p>\n

The event is also a significant contributor to surf lifesaving operations at PLSLSC, with all funds going straight back into keeping the local beaches safe.<\/p>\n

“Every entry helps us train and equip our volunteer lifesavers,” club captain Jessica Robinson said.<\/p>\n

“Swimmers are not just taking part in a great event \u2013 they’re helping protect the community.”<\/p>\n

Early bird pricing is open until November 30.<\/p>\n
