LOCALS and holidaymakers are being urged to put safety first this summer, as Barwon Coast rolls out a summer campaign designed to support respectful and responsible behaviour along the Bellarine coastline.<\/p>\n

The campaign brings together practical guidance on some of the most common summer risks, from jetty and bridge jumping, which can quickly lead to serious spinal injuries, to e-bikes and e-scooters.<\/p>\n

Water safety tips, including information on how to spot a rip current and understanding the tides, also features strongly in the campaign, alongside advice for responsible dog walking, boating awareness and protecting the environment.<\/p>\n

Barwon Coast Committee of Management interim chair Peter Farrell said the initiative aims to support safe and positive beach experiences for everyone.<\/p>\n

“Summer is our busiest time on the coast, when visitor numbers swell the local populations by tens of thousands of people,” Farrell said.<\/p>\n

“This campaign brings together simple reminders that help people stay safe, respect each other and care for our coastal environment.”<\/p>\n

Safety this summer, he said, is key.<\/p>\n

“We want everyone to come home from the beach safe and sound,” Farrell said.<\/p>\n

“We work closely with Victoria Police, surf life saving clubs, government partners, volunteer groups and the local community, and this campaign reflects our shared commitment to keeping the coast safe for everyone.”<\/p>\n

Bellarine MP Alison Marchant said community awareness is critical in helping prevent avoidable incidents.<\/p>\n

“This is a simple but important reminder that we all play a part in keeping our coast safe,” she said.<\/p>\n

City of Greater Geelong councillor Elise Wilkinson said small actions could significantly improve safety outcomes.<\/p>\n

“This campaign encourages people to take small steps that make a big difference to safety. Council is pleased to support work that helps everyone enjoy our beautiful coastline,” she said.<\/p>\n
