A SEA OF PINK swept across 13th Beach Golf Club as players teed off for the 22nd Pink Players Day.<\/p>\n
The Club is the largest community fundraiser in the country for Breast Cancer Network Australia, with the event last week raising more than $59,000 for the cause.<\/p>\n
132 players began the day with a shotgun start on the main course, before coming together at the clubhouse for high tea and the presentation of prizes donated by local businesses.<\/p>\n
Other members could participate in a smaller competition on the secondary course, with all funds donated to BCNA.<\/p>\n
Lisa Phelps, convener of the Pink Players Committee, explained how special it was to see the community come together for a meaningful cause.<\/p>\n
“It gives me a real sense of faith in the goodness of people and their desire to make a difference where they can,” she said.<\/p>\n
“It’s heartwarming, that’s probably the big word.”<\/p>\n
The high tea included an important announcement of the BCNA’s goal to improve care for those living with metastatic breast cancer by advocating for mandatory data collection across Australia.<\/p>\n
Those in attendance signed a pledge to encourage action and ensure those who suffer from the disease are able to be better looked after.<\/p>\n
Phelps stressed the importance of this pledge and how the club was able to contribute.<\/p>\n
“It was a great opportunity to be able to say, this is what we need to do differently and this is your chance to make a difference by doing the signing of the pledge,” she said.<\/p>\n
With the club donating the course and their staff for the day and various local businesses sponsoring and donating over $41,000 worth of prizes, Phelps thanked those involved for their help and contributions.<\/p>\n
“We really had the whole course invested in it,” she said.<\/p>\n
“They spend the whole day working with us, they’re just amazing.”<\/p>\n
Phelps also thanked the Pink Players committee for their work to make the event happen.<\/p>\n
“They have worked tirelessly,” she said.<\/p>\n
“We start in January and we’re still going now finishing it off. They’re incredible.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
