TORQUAY Cricket Club recruit Finlay Carter has been selected to represent Scotland at the Under-19 World Cup.<\/p>\n
The 18-year-old overseas import and his teammates will spend a week preparing in South Africa at the beginning of January before travelling to Zimbabwe for the international tournament.<\/p>\n
Hailing from Whitstable Cricket Club in Kent, England, Carter’s Scottish heritage comes from his mother’s side.<\/p>\n
He took part in Scotland’s successful World Cup European qualifying campaign earlier this year, not long before boarding a plane to Australia for Round 1 of the Geelong cricket season.<\/p>\n
Carter said he looked forward to taking to the world stage in pool games against host nations as well as cricket heavyweights Pakistan and England.<\/p>\n
“I’m looking forward to what’s going to be a pretty impressive month away,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Being able to tour a different part of the world where you wouldn’t normally travel, it’s a good opportunity for us as a side to take on some bigger nations and test ourselves against some high quality players.”<\/p>\n
Carter has impressed during his time with the Torquay Cricket Club, opening the batting for the Tigers and showing a clean pair of hands behind the stumps as wicketkeeper.<\/p>\n
He has also represented the Barwon Rockets under-21 Geelong region representative side.<\/p>\n
“It’s been a really good atmosphere around the club \u2013 very inviting \u2013 and it’s been good to come over to Australia and play cricket,” Carter said.<\/p>\n
“I’m obviously getting a lot more out of it than you would spending the winter back home in the indoor nets.<\/p>\n
“It’s been a really good opportunity to come out here.”<\/p>\n
Carter will return to Torquay for the remainder of the Australian season following the World Cup.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
