{"id":114797,"date":"2026-01-10T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=114797"},"modified":"2026-01-09T13:06:55","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T02:06:55","slug":"swimmers-rip-it-up-in-lonny","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/swimmers-rip-it-up-in-lonny\/","title":{"rendered":"Swimmers rip it up in Lonny"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE 37th annual Rip View Swim Classic has raised more than $130,000 for essential surf lifesaving equipment at the Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club.<\/p>\n<p>More than 1,350 swimmers took part in one of the event&#8217;s largest editions to date, with all funds directed toward upgrading and maintaining critical gear used by local volunteer lifesavers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 391px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/DSC07476_49496.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"391\" height=\"585\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Great sportsmanship was on show between competitors on the day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This year marked a refreshed chapter for the Rip View Swim Classic, with a renewed look and feel aimed at improving both the athlete and spectator experience, while reinforcing the event&#8217;s strong community focus.<\/p>\n<p>Bathed in perfect summer conditions, swimmers of all ages and abilities took to the water across three swim distances: 3.8km, 1.4km and the 600m dash.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/DSC08358_49462.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"436\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club are celebrating another successful edition of the event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The marquee open male title was taken out by Conor Hayes, while Madi Brand reigned supreme in the open female division.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Gilling and Charlotte Logan shared the podium in the 1.4km swim, while Mun Lee and Janice De Vries took top honours in the 600m dash.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 401px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/DSC07803_49408.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Point Lonsdale foreshore had a great festival like atmosphere.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Race director Liam Petrie-Allbutt praised both the conditions and the professionalism of the event delivery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were fortunate to have excellent conditions on the day, but just as importantly, swimmers would have experienced a smooth, well-managed and safely run event,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s a credit to the planning, the water safety teams and the volunteers who ensured everything ran seamlessly from the first start to the final finish.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/DSC07548_49437.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"599\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Swimmers raced across three course lengths on the day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Club president Michael Doery said the event played an important role in supporting both lifesaving services and the wider regional economy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Rip View Swim Classic is first and foremost a community event,&#8221;
