{"id":114897,"date":"2026-01-15T04:00:28","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T17:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=114897"},"modified":"2026-01-14T15:15:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T04:15:11","slug":"port-mussels-up-for-major-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/port-mussels-up-for-major-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Port mussels up for major festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PORTARLINGTON turned its eye to a seafood delicacy over the weekend, with thousands of people indulging in the 19th edition of the Portarlington Mussel Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Crowds of more than 25,000 people flocked to Saturday&#8217;s vibrant community celebration which brought together fresh local food, live music, and family-friendly fun \u2014 all in support of the local community.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 602px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/MusselFest2026_028Al_22894.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"602\" height=\"401\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alison Marchant with organiser Richard Underwood and family.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/MusselFest2026_150Ri_22867.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">There were several cooking demonstrations on throughout the day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Visitors indulged in performers across three stages, cooking demonstrations of mussels cooked in every way, art and photography exhibitions, kids activities and more than 190 market stalls.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Run entirely by a passionate team of more than 80 volunteers, the festival once again provided a huge cash reinjection back into the Bellarine Peninsula and its local businesses.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 602px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/MusselFest2026_194_22786.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"602\" height=\"401\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">More than 80 volunteers helped to run the event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/MusselFest2026_009_22708.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Portarlington Mussel Festival committee welcome the crowds to the event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Portarlington Mussel Festival organiser Richard Underwood said fundraising figures were set to soar over $350,000 after another huge push in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was another highly successful festival with a really solid crowd spread across the day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We worked with 15 or 16 different community organisations who will gain contributions from the event.
