MOTORISTS in Drysdale are being advised to plan for several months of disruption, with part of High Street set to close to allow for major drainage works.<\/p>\n
The City of Greater Geelong will temporarily close a section of High Street near De Burgh Road from late January until Easter, as it upgrades an existing drainage culvert.<\/p>\n
During the closure, traffic will be diverted down De Burgh Road, Princess Street and Eversley Street.<\/p>\n
The works are aimed at improving drainage capacity and reducing flood risk for upstream properties that are vulnerable during periods of heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n
Mayor Cr Stretch Kontelj said the project would deliver important<\/p>\n
safety benefits for the local community.<\/p>\n
“This project will provide greater flood protection for residents in Drysdale, ensuring the community is better prepared for future weather events,” he said.<\/p>\n
Leopold Ward’s Cr Trent Sullivan acknowledged the impacts of the temporary road closure.<\/p>\n
“The long-term benefits of improved drainage and reduced flood risk will be significant for the community,” he said.<\/p>\n
“We understand road works and detours are disruptive, and we appreciate everyone’s patience while these works are carried out.”<\/p>\n
The culvert upgrade has been timed to follow the completion of the Drysdale Bypass, a decision made to limit broader traffic disruption in the area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
