PREPARATIONS are well underway for the Wreck2Reef Open Water Swim, with organisers expecting hundreds of swimmers to descend on Indented Head when the event returns next month.<\/p>\n

About 400 swimmers will take to the water on February 14, continuing a Bellarine tradition that has been running for 16 years.<\/p>\n

The 2026 edition will again offer a broad mix of swims, including the 1.2km swim, 2.5km open water swim, 800m novice event, 300m dash for younger swimmers, and a 600m social swim catering to all abilities.<\/p>\n

Race director Andrew Dix said the wide range of event options helped position Wreck2Reef as a relaxed community day rather than a purely competitive meet.<\/p>\n

“It helps make it an event that people just come to enjoy rather than come to get a [fast] time,” he said. “It’s that whole community feel that you get from us… everybody’s there to have a good time.”<\/p>\n

A new family-focused swim option will also be introduced this year, following feedback from participants keen to take part alongside their children and other family members.<\/p>\n

Event organisers are still finalising the details, but its addition will make the swim even more inclusive.<\/p>\n

Wreck2Reef remains the Indented Head Yacht Club’s major annual fundraiser, with proceeds this year to be directed towards facility improvements, including upgrades to the clubhouse’s showers and changeroom amenities.<\/p>\n

The event also forms part of the Great Victorian Swim Series, linking it with a broader calendar of open water events across the state and drawing participants from outside the region.<\/p>\n

Registrations for the 2026 Wreck2Reef are still open.<\/p>\n
