THE Disabled Surfers Association Ocean Grove branch is putting the callout to the community to come and be part of their special day.<\/p>\n
More than 200 volunteers are being sought to assist surfers of all abilities in getting in the water on March 1.<\/p>\n
Attendees will be able to help with marshalling, food delivery, water safety and surfing throughout what will be a fun morning.<\/p>\n
DSA Ocean Grove president Jeremy Swift said uptake from volunteers would allow them to open up more surfing spots.<\/p>\n
“We’ve got about 130 at the moment which is a great outcome, but we are after even more to make sure no one misses out.<\/p>\n
“After cancelling February due to bad weather, it’s vital that we get as many surfers in the water that want to make it our March event.<\/p>\n
“If we can do so, we can let another 20 surfers come in. We are at capacity right now, but there’s 15 on the waitlist.<\/p>\n
“You don’t have to be a surfer to volunteer too, it’s open to anyone no matter whether they want to be in the water or not.”<\/p>\n
Each group will be led by DSA team leaders who will be in red rash vests.<\/p>\n
Once you are on the beach, volunteers will be put into groups by a beach marshall (green rash vest).<\/p>\n
The red vests will then provide a final briefing before surfing commences.<\/p>\n
No surf experience is required to volunteer.<\/p>\n
