{"id":116644,"date":"2026-02-26T04:00:58","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T17:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=116644"},"modified":"2026-02-25T18:35:33","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T07:35:33","slug":"tri-flies-through-barwon-heads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/tri-flies-through-barwon-heads\/","title":{"rendered":"Tri flies through Barwon Heads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Barwon Heads Triathlon has wrapped up for another year, with a strong field turning out to tackle the coastal course across swim, bike and run legs.<\/p>\n<p>Competitors of all ages and abilities lined up for the 400m swim in the protected waters north of the Barwon Heads bridge, before heading out on a 14km ride along 13th Beach.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/02\/4-_MG_9749_16937.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Athletes took on a 14km bike leg. Photo: Claire Radford Photography<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The race finished with a 4km run from Barwon Heads towards Ocean Grove and back, drawing plenty of spectators for the final stretch.<\/p>\n<p>David Fawkes was the first male home, finishing in under 40 minutes. Victorians Sean Miller and Tommy Smith filled the remaining podium places.<\/p>\n<p>Louise Wood claimed her second Barwon Heads Triathlon title in the women&#8217;s race, winning in 48 minutes and 22 seconds. Alana Park and Emilie Guy rounded out the top three.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 599px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/02\/S8A9071_16909.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"399\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Louise Wood was the first female over the line. Photo: Claire Radford Photography<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Race organiser Lincoln Beckworth said the event continued to attract both seasoned competitors and newcomers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had some really fast times, as well many who just enjoyed it,&#8221; he said. &#8220;To get 300 first-timers taking on an event of this calibre is truly remarkable and we are stoked with that all round.
