THE banks of the Barwon River will come alive with runners, walkers and families this Sunday 1 March as the Geelong River Run returns for another celebration of community and connection.<\/p>\n

The renowned event will see over 1,200 participants hit the popular track, with both 10km and 5km options available.<\/p>\n

Organiser Justin Higgins said the Barwon River makes for a perfect running location thanks to its accessibility and serenity.<\/p>\n

“It’s a well-known running track, it’s easy to navigate and reasonably flat,” he said.<\/p>\n

“It’s friendly to everyone \u2013 you can have novices because it’s not too hilly, you can have pram pushers, it’s really accessible to everyone who wants to get out and get active. And it’s also beautiful along the banks.”<\/p>\n

The course for the 10km run has changed for this year’s edition due to works along the track, something Higgins hoped would lead to slightly quicker finish times across the board.<\/p>\n

Higgins said the event was a valuable opportunity for locals to get involved in the community and enjoy a sense of connection.<\/p>\n

“We want people to get out there and get active, get them out of their houses and into the community,” he said.<\/p>\n

“People could do this run for nothing and run the course at any time, but I think that community atmosphere and getting around like-minded people is a really positive thing.<\/p>\n

“You notice it on race day, the vibe around the place where everyone’s very positive and doing something good for both their mental and physical health.<\/p>\n

Entries will remain open until the events start on Sunday morning. The 10km run will begin at 8am, while the 5km run and walk starts at 8.45am.<\/p>\n
