THE state government has kicked in an additional $200,000 to ensure the Queenscliff Sport and Recreation Precinct redevelopment project includes first class netball game day facilities.<\/p>\n
Bellarine MP Lisa Neville, along with Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor Susan Salter, Cr Bob Merriman, and netball players, met for the announcement on Friday.<\/p>\n
Ms Neville said the state government had already committed $3.15 million to the project, which involved completely upgrading the precinct and turning it into a modern, attractive, safe and accessible sports facility.<\/p>\n
Works include a new community gymnasium, upgraded oval, upgraded cricket training facilities, a new play space, extended parking, and redevelopment of the netball courts.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, during design of the netball work it was identified that a lack of game day facilities for the courts would significantly limit their functionality,\u201d Ms Neville said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn supporting the netballers, the state government will now contribute the additional $200,000, bringing its total contribution to $3.35 million.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Neville said the borough had previously committed $460,000 towards building the facility.<\/p>\n
The netball game day facility will include change rooms, first aid, office, kitchenette and toilet facilities.<\/p>\n
Expected to be completed by the end of September this year, Ms Neville said the precinct would be a superb sports hub for the Queenscliff community.<\/p>\n
