LANDCARE and environmental volunteer groups across the Surf Coast and Greater Geelong region are encouraged to apply for the latest round of the Victorian government’s Landcare grants.<\/p>\n

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) has opened applications for the program, with $3.55 million available statewide to support projects that protect and enhance Victoria’s natural environment.<\/p>\n

Local Landcare and environmental volunteer groups can apply for project grants of up to $20,000 and support grants of up to $500 for administrative costs.<\/p>\n

The funding supports initiatives such as on-ground environmental works, community education and engagement, group development and operational costs including insurance and incorporation.<\/p>\n

DEECA director of environmental investment and programs, Lorna Mathieson, said the grants recognised the role volunteers played in caring for the environment.<\/p>\n

“It is so important that we support the significant contribution that Landcare and environmental volunteer groups make to our communities managing projects that restore and enhance our parks, coastlines, nature reserves and waterways,” she said.<\/p>\n

“These grants continue to be of incredible value to Victoria and we’re proud to support the work of Landcare and environmental volunteers to protect our environment for generations to come.”<\/p>\n

Grants are available to Landcare and environmental volunteer groups including Friends groups, committees of management, Coastcare groups, conservation networks and Traditional Owner and Aboriginal organisations.<\/p>\n

Corangamite CMA regional Landcare coordinator, Kylie McLaren, encouraged local groups to put forward projects they’re ready to deliver.<\/p>\n

“The application process is simple and accessible,” she said. “Just jump online, read the Victorian Landcare grants guidelines and start your application.<\/p>\n

“If you need support at any stage, we’re here to help.”<\/p>\n
