{"id":118154,"date":"2026-03-26T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=118154"},"modified":"2026-03-25T17:08:41","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T06:08:41","slug":"triple-delight-for-seagulls-on-bpca-grand-final-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/triple-delight-for-seagulls-on-bpca-grand-final-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"Triple delight for Seagulls on BPCA grand final weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BARWON Heads have capped off an incredible undefeated season in convincing fashion, cruising to a premiership-claiming victory over Queenscliff in the BPCA1 grand final.<\/p>\n<p>The Seagulls were rarely challenged all season and last weekend&#8217;s clash was no exception as they secured the win with seven wickets in hand.<\/p>\n<p>After winning the toss and electing to bat, Queenscliff struggled to break free as Barwon Heads&#8217; disciplined attack applied constant pressure.<\/p>\n<p>Regular wickets left the Coutas 5\/98 before the Seagulls ran through the middle order, dismissing them for 160.<\/p>\n<p>Despite facing 101 balls, gun opener Lochie Philp went out for just 33 runs, while skipper Hayden Illingworth top-scored with 44.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/03\/656323232_1570381651_48204.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"968\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Winchelsea beat Collendina to win the BPCA2 premiership. Photo: BPCA\/Mark Heenan Media.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Barwon Heads needed just 49 overs to chase down the total, with Lewis Hyland and Max Melzer both making half-centuries and Matthew Bode adding 41 runs.<\/p>\n<p>The premiership capped a dominant weekend for the club, with Barwon Heads also claiming flags in the seconds and thirds.<\/p>\n<p>In BPCA2, Winchelsea overcame Collendina by 38 runs thanks to seven combined wickets from Jarrod Groves and captain Shane Murdoch.<\/p>\n<p>Murdoch, who also won this year&#8217;s Ian Caldwell Medal for being the competition&#8217;s most valuable player, top-scored with 69 runs to guide his side to 9\/198.<\/p>\n<p>The Cobras were unable to fire in the second innings and were bowled out for 160.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BARWON Heads have capped off an incredible undefeated season in convincing fashion, cruising to a premiership-claiming victory over Queenscliff in the BPCA1 grand final.
