PORT Phillip Ferries says it had no choice but to introduce a temporary 20 per cent surcharge on tickets to its services.<\/p>\n

The Environmental Fuel Surcharge (EFS), which applied across all ferry tickets from Monday, is in response to sustained increases in global fuel prices driven by the Iran war.<\/p>\n

PPF says it held off implementing any price changes for as long as possible, but the continued pressure on operating costs meant a 20 per cent fuel levy was required to ensure the ongoing delivery of safe, reliable and consistent ferry services to and from Geelong, Portarlington, and Docklands.<\/p>\n

“We understand that any price change can impact our passengers, and this is not a step we take lightly,” Port Phillip Ferries chief executive, Murray Rance, said.<\/p>\n

“We have absorbed these increases for as long as we could, but this temporary measure allows us to continue operating without compromising the quality of our service.”<\/p>\n

The EFS will be displayed at the time of booking.<\/p>\n

While the surcharge will apply across all ticket types, PortPlus Membership bundles continue to offer value for passengers.<\/p>\n

Commuters travelling between the Bellarine and Melbourne can still get fares from as little as $16.20 per trip on weekday services, compared to a full fare of $25.80.<\/p>\n

Weekend bundle options are available from about $18.60 per trip, compared to a $30 full fare.<\/p>\n

“The key message is that there are still very cost-effective ways to travel with us,” Rance said.<\/p>\n

“Whether you are commuting during the week or planning a weekend outing, PortPlus Membership continues to provide real value, especially when compared to the rising cost of fuel and driving.”<\/p>\n

The EFS will be reviewed regularly and removed as market conditions stabilise.<\/p>\n

“We appreciate the ongoing support of our passengers and remain committed to providing a reliable, enjoyable and accessible ferry service for the community,” Rance said.<\/p>\n
