{"id":118977,"date":"2026-04-14T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-13T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=118977"},"modified":"2026-04-08T19:54:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T09:54:40","slug":"contractor-search-begins-for-st-leonards-pier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/contractor-search-begins-for-st-leonards-pier\/","title":{"rendered":"Contractor search begins for St Leonards Pier"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE redevelopment of the St Leonards Pier is edging closer, with the state government calling for contractors to deliver the project.<\/p>\n<p>A tender has opened this week for a lead construction partner, with an appointment expected by mid-2026.<\/p>\n<p>The move follows the release last month of the final design of the pier, which incorporated a range of changes informed by community feedback.<\/p>\n<p>More than 200 submissions were received during the final consultation phase of the project late last year.<\/p>\n<p>The updated plans include curved and bench seating facing the bay, wheelchair-accessible fishing platforms and expanded deck space near the Sirens kiosk and pier entrance to encourage social use.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/StLeonardsPier_rende_26647.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The final design for the project includes an expanded deck space near Sirens kiosk and the pier\u2019s entrance to enhance its social use. Photo: Supplied.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A low landing is expected to improve access for boaters, divers and snorkellers, while fishing rod holders and interpretive signage highlighting maritime history and marine life have also been included in the design.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is an exciting step forward for the St Leonards community, with the tender now open to deliver a modern, safe and accessible pier locals and visitors can enjoy year-round,&#8221; Bellarine MP Alison Marchant said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The new pier will make a real difference, from better access for anglers of all abilities to safer entry points for boats, divers and snorkellers, all while protecting what makes this coastline so special.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The rebuild is designed to support the wide range of recreational activities at St Leonards while recognising the site&#8217;s heritage and protecting the surrounding marine environment.<\/p>\n<p>The state government says local ports contribute more than $900 million annually to Victoria&#8217;s economy through tourism, marine activity and associated industries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE redevelopment of the St Leonards Pier is edging closer, with the state government calling for contractors to deliver the project.
