THE 2026 Surf Coast Trek, a 37km walk from Aireys Inlet or 23km from Anglesea to Torquay, raises funds that make a difference locally to help create a stronger, fairer and more inclusive community.<\/p>\n

All funds raised support programs that change lives, from providing children and families with vital therapy services, to helping people in need access food, homelessness assistance and opportunities to build a better future.<\/p>\n

Raising vital funds for both Kids+ and the Give Where You Live Foundation over the past 10 years, the trek has been instrumental in providing support where it is needed most.<\/p>\n

That support has taken on a different view for a group of local women preparing for the trek, proving that the Surf Coast Trek is more than just a walk.<\/p>\n

Team ‘Whole Heart’ is a group of bereaved mums who are walking the Surf Coast Trek in memory of their children.<\/p>\n

Kerri walks in memory of Lauren. Sue walks in memory of Ayesha. Erin walks in memory of Milla. Mel walks in memory of Lachie.<\/p>\n

Each of these bereaved mothers and their families, have experienced the love and support of the Geelong community firsthand and they see this year’s Surf Coast Trek as an opportunity to give something in return.<\/p>\n

This group of incredible mums have a common link in funeral celebrant, Kristy Harmon.<\/p>\n

“I felt a need for the women to meet each other and offer each other their stories, their experiences and their insights,” Harmon said. “Our training walks and our team chat group are providing an opportunity to do this.<\/p>\n

“There is something very powerful about the combination of movement and conversation that traditional support groups perhaps can’t provide. This type of challenge doesn’t suit everyone, but it is working for us.”<\/p>\n

This inspirational group of women are commended for their incredible drive and support of the Surf Coast Trek with Team Whole Heart hitting an early lead on the fundraising leaderboard.<\/p>\n

“I hope this will be a special type of community of support,” Harmon said. “The 23km walk will be a challenge for each of us physically and emotionally, particularly because it occurs on the Mother’s Day weekend, which is always a significant day for grieving families.<\/p>\n

“I have been with these women on some of their most difficult days and witnessed their grace and courage. Although their days are often heavy with grief, these women are tenacious and will be capable of this trek in an inspiring way.”<\/p>\n
