{"id":119145,"date":"2026-04-16T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=119145"},"modified":"2026-04-15T19:35:33","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T09:35:33","slug":"jumps-berms-wall-rides-what-is-coming-to-point-lonsdales-new-bike-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/jumps-berms-wall-rides-what-is-coming-to-point-lonsdales-new-bike-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Jumps, berms, wall rides: What is coming to Point Lonsdale\u2019s new bike park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>POINT Lonsdale&#8217;s young riders are finally getting a legal place to catch air following the arrival of a $500,000 state government grant for a new bike park.<\/p>\n<p>The facility will be built on a former road reserve at the corner of the Bellarine Highway and Point Lonsdale Road, providing a permanent home for cyclists after the closure of makeshift tracks across the township.<\/p>\n<p>The site sits next to the existing Point Lonsdale Skate Park.<\/p>\n<p>Bellarine MP Alison Marchant said the funding followed a long-running push from local families to find a dedicated space for the community&#8217;s riders.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Congratulations to the Borough of Queenscliffe on securing this important funding following strong community advocacy,&#8221; she said. &#8220;A new bike park will help keep families and kids in Point Lonsdale active and connected to their community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The project is backed by a $180,000 contribution from the borough and will feature two separate asphalt circuits, a 105m loop for beginners and a more technical 125m jumps track with a berm top wall ride for experienced riders.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_119150\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-119150\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-119150\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/bike-park-concept_09468_tn.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"522\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-119150\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A proposed 3D render of the bike park. Image: Borough of Queenscliffe.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Consultation on the project first began in 2021 to determine what the community wanted from a local track.<\/p>\n<p>The move to develop a formal site followed the removal of unsanctioned bush tracks elsewhere in the town, which were closed to protect and regrow sensitive coastal vegetation.<\/p>\n<p>To clear the way for construction, the council completed a cultural heritage management plan and secured Marine and Coastal Act consent to use the land.<\/p>\n<p>An agreement was also negotiated with the Department of Transport and Planning to repurpose the vacant road reserve for the park.<\/p>\n<p>The final design was refined after a 2025 on-site session where residents reviewed technical plans alongside project specialists.<\/p>\n<p>The government&#8217;s investment is part of a $65 million statewide package aimed at building modern sports infrastructure across regional Victoria.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>POINT Lonsdale&#8217;s young riders are finally getting a legal place to catch air following the arrival of a $500,000 state government grant for a new bike park.
