GEELONG’S new $450 million convention centre is looking for more than 100 people to staff the venue as it enters its final countdown to opening.<\/p>\n
The Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre is set to open in July and has started a recruitment drive to fill the roles needed for its first season of events.<\/p>\n
Member for Western Victoria Region Gayle Tierney said the centre would serve as a vital engine for the regional labour market.<\/p>\n
“Nyaal Banyul will be a major local employer, creating work in events and hospitality,” she said. “These opportunities will help more locals find meaningful roles close to home.”<\/p>\n
More than 50 hospitality positions are available for chefs, stewards, and food and beverage attendants, alongside roles for audiovisual technicians, logistics operators and customer service staff.<\/p>\n
Nyaal Banyal general manager Rick Aylett said the project aimed to provide career pathways for people in the region.<\/p>\n
“One of our main objectives as a new major venue has always been to create significant job opportunities for the Geelong community,” he said.<\/p>\n
The hiring phase marks the first large scale intake of casual staff for the facility.<\/p>\n
Once the centre is fully operational, it is expected to support more than 40 permanent roles and 200 casual positions.<\/p>\n
Successful candidates will begin by working on test events and operational trials held before the doors officially open to the public.<\/p>\n
