GEELONG will mark Anzac Day with an evening clash, taking on Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.<\/p>\n
It will be the Cats’ first match on 25 April since 2008, when they edged Fremantle by a point at Subiaco.<\/p>\n
To recognise the occasion, Geelong will wear a specially designed Anzac Day guernsey, featuring a gum tree motif layered over the club’s blue and white hoops.<\/p>\n
The gum tree carries particular significance in the Anzac story, with soldiers sending eucalyptus leaves back to their families and burning them during war to create a sense of home.<\/p>\n
On the field, Geelong returns to Adelaide for the second time in three weeks after its Gather Round win over West Coast at Norwood Oval, and will be chasing a fifth straight victory at Adelaide Oval.<\/p>\n
The Cats sit sixth with a 4-2 record and enter the match in strong form, coming off a 75-point win over the Western Bulldogs at GMHBA Stadium.<\/p>\n
Jeremy Cameron looms as a key figure after kicking 10 goals in last weekend’s win, while the run and carry of Bailey Smith and Max Holmes continues to shape Geelong’s game.<\/p>\n
Port Adelaide, meanwhile, has dropped its past two matches to sit 12th, but still boasts plenty of firepower through Zak Butters and Jason Horne-Francis.<\/p>\n
