GEELONG Cemeteries Trust will officially open Bellarine Memorial Park on Friday 29 May, marking a significant milestone for the Bellarine Peninsula and the wider Geelong region.<\/p>\n

Located in Marcus Hill on the Bellarine Highway, the new 42ha memorial park has been thoughtfully designed to serve the needs of a growing and diverse community, now and for generations to come.<\/p>\n

The memorial park will provide space for more than 60,000 interments and memorials when fully developed.<\/p>\n

The official opening will be followed by a community open day, delivered in partnership with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation and Bellarine Catchment Network.<\/p>\n

The event will invite the public to explore the location, connect with the landscape and learn more about its environmental and cultural significance.<\/p>\n

The design reflects a contemporary approach to memorial parks \u2013 balancing remembrance with community connection and care for the natural environment.<\/p>\n

A cultural trail will link key areas of the site, leading to a dedicated First Peoples burial area near Yarram Creek, while significant revegetation efforts will protect and enhance the surrounding landscape.<\/p>\n

Geelong Cemeteries Trust chair John Mitchell said the opening represents an important step in planning for the region’s future.<\/p>\n

“Bellarine Memorial Park has been carefully planned to support a growing community over the long term, while recognising the locations cultural and environmental significance,” he said.<\/p>\n

“It ensures our community will have a place for remembrance that is inclusive, sustainable and here for generations to come.”<\/p>\n

The memorial park will offer a diverse range of burial and memorial options, including lawn graves, parkland settings, bush burial areas, a dedicated Feng Shui section and extensive cremation memorial spaces, with these areas delivered progressively over time.<\/p>\n

Geelong Cemeteries Trust chief executive Dean Matthews said the memorial park has been designed with both people and place in mind.<\/p>\n

“This is a place where people can come not only to remember, but to feel connected \u2013 to nature, to community and to those they love,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Through walking paths, revegetated spaces and quiet areas for reflection, it has been designed to feel open, welcoming and part of everyday life, and will continue to evolved alongside the community it serves.”<\/p>\n

Future development will introduce boardwalks, feature gardens and continued planting of native species to support biodiversity and protect the natural environment.<\/p>\n

Community members are warmly invited to attend the official opening and open day celebrations.<\/p>\n
