AN American indie drama exploring love, identity and survival will make its Australian debut in Geelong this weekend.<\/p>\n

The Geelong Pride Film Festival has secured the national premiere of Drip Like Coffee, a feature by writer-director Anaiis Cisco, as part of its 2026 program.<\/p>\n

Set in Brooklyn, Drip Like Coffee follows Kali, a barista navigating a strained relationship and a workplace where her ideas go unheard.<\/p>\n

Her life shifts when she meets Mel, an emerging photographer who joins her behind the cafe counter.<\/p>\n

As their connection deepens, the pair rediscover their creative ambitions and an unexpected romance begins to take shape.<\/p>\n

Beyond its central relationship, the film explores themes of Black queer identity, community and housing insecurity, offering a portrait of lives often overlooked in mainstream cinema.<\/p>\n

Geelong Pride Film Festival director Louise Lever said landing the film’s Australian premiere reflected the event’s growing profile and its focus on elevating underrepresented voices.<\/p>\n

“Anaiis Cisco has crafted a deeply intimate and layered portrait of modern queer love that challenges mainstream cinematic narratives,” Lever said. “It explores the complexities of self-discovery and intimacy with authenticity.<\/p>\n

“This is exactly the kind of bold, life-affirming storytelling that our festival is proud to champion.”<\/p>\n

The film will screen at Platform Arts on Saturday 2 May, with Cisco in attendance for a post-screening discussion.<\/p>\n

“Having Anaiis travel to Geelong to participate in a Q&A is incredibly exciting for us,” Lever said.<\/p>\n

“We know Geelong audiences are hungry for sophisticated, diverse cinema, and the chance to dive deeper into the beautiful complexities of this film with the director herself is something you won’t want to miss.”<\/p>\n

The Geelong Pride Film Festival provides a regional platform for LGBTIQA+ storytelling, with screenings across independent venues and a focus on inclusive spaces.<\/p>\n
