NOMINATIONS have opened for the 2026 Victorian Senior of the Year Awards, recognising older Victorians contributing to their communities in meaningful ways.<\/p>\n

The awards, now in their fourth decade, highlight the role seniors continue to play across the state, from mentoring young people and supporting those experiencing disadvantage to strengthening social connection.<\/p>\n

The Geelong region featured among last year’s recipients, with local volunteers Steve Bentley and Geoffrey Mann recognised for their community work across mentoring, food relief, community transport and international aid programs.<\/p>\n

Minister for ageing Ingrid Stitt encouraged people to put forward nominations.<\/p>\n

“Older Victorians play a vital role in keeping our communities strong, safe and inclusive \u2013 these awards recognise the difference they make every day,” she said.<\/p>\n

“If you know a senior Victorian who goes above and beyond for their community, now is the time to nominate them so we can celebrate their contributions.”<\/p>\n

Six award categories will be presented in 2026, including the premier’s award for Victorian senior of the year, the COTA Victoria senior achiever award and the emerging impact award for newer volunteers, alongside awards recognising positive ageing, multiculturalism and service to the veteran community.<\/p>\n

This year’s winners will be announced in October as part of the Victorian Seniors Festival.<\/p>\n
