THE Great Ocean Road Coast Committee is hosting a series of listening posts to discuss and test elements of the winning design for the Point Grey \u2013 Lorne Redevelopment Architectural Design Competition.<\/p>\n
Great Ocean Road Coast staff and the multidisciplinary\u00a0team comprising Searle x Waldron<\/p>\n
Architecture and Edwards Moore Projects have been gathering feedback from a number of community and business groups, since the winning design was announced on May 11.<\/p>\n
Further discussions are underway with the Eastern Maar, Lorne Community Hospital, Lorne P-12 Secondary School and others.<\/p>\n
Great Ocean Road Coast Chair Ken Northwood said the feedback so far had been extremely positive.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Lorne.<\/p>\n
We do not underestimate the importance of the redevelopment to the township, its history and the economic need to build something for people to \u2018Stop Spend and Stay\u2019 in the town.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Northwood said community feedback was sought on elements of the design to ensure that the landscape and its heritage was respected, and the best\u00a0possible outcome for the community delivered, which would be something that complemented the Great Ocean Road experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are undertaking piece of work to complement the design, which centres around how the space can be activated with historic interpretation and linked back to the township. As such we have formed a small Creative Community Counsel with representatives from the Lorne Biennale, Committee for Lorne, Lorne Business Tourism and Traders Association and the Lorne Historic Society. We will do everything we can to ensure we\u2019re undertaking a redevelopment that the town can be proud of, and actively involved with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Great Ocean Road Coast staff will be available at Lorne Community House 9am-3pm on Saturday July 14. A session in Melbourne will run 4pm-6pm on July 18 at 8 Nicholson Street, East Melbourne.<\/p>\n
