THE inaugural SENSE-ational Aireys festival is starting today, Friday 29 May, and will run through five weekends until Sunday 28 June.<\/p>\n

The festival boasts a program of sensory overload with a key focus on the amazing cuisine, culture, art, health and wellbeing through food, exercise, activities and the environment.<\/p>\n

Surf Coast Shire councillor Mike Bodsworth encouraged both locals and visitors to throw their support behind the event.<\/p>\n

“SENSE-ational Aireys will be an exciting addition to the Surf Coast Events calendar, delivering an incredible program of events,” he said.<\/p>\n

“As well as supporting the Aireys community, it will bring people together for memorable experiences and most importantly, plenty of fun.<\/p>\n

“SENSE-ational aligns well with the Surf Coast Shire being an eco destination, with the festival offering numerous nature-based experiences including a bush labyrinth walk, canoeing on Painkalac Creek, learn to surf lessons and more.”<\/p>\n

On Saturday 30 May there will be a chance to visit an 11-acre parcel of land at Aireys Inlet which has been revitalised with the support of residents and local environment groups and now boasts colonies of previously threatened species.<\/p>\n

The next day, the Aireys Inlet Tourism and Traders Association will feature a series of documentaries on work in the Greek islands by volunteer groups to clean up ocean pollution, the impact of plastic in our oceans and seas and the similarities to the wonderful work of the Aireys Inlet Rubbish Rangers.<\/p>\n

Association president Michael Lawrey said the festival had been designed to highlight many of the experiences that make Aireys Inlet unique.<\/p>\n

“Aireys will host diverse events to complement and showcase the multi-sensory experiences we have available,” he said.<\/p>\n

“There will be something for everyone, including a dedicated wellness seminar followed by an interactive travel lounge on Saturday 6 June in the Aireys Inlet Community Centre.”<\/p>\n

The seminar will be a one-stop destination for your health and wellness journey, starting with an introductory talk by Dr Deb Yiap on Blue Health, Blue Minds and Biophilia.<\/p>\n

Following the wellness seminar, immerse yourself in the experiential travel lounge, hosted by KCM Travel, and learn about fabulous destinations within and outside of Australia.<\/p>\n

Media celebrity Lucinda Light will also make a guest appearance at the travel lounge.<\/p>\n

A conversation panel on 13 June about connection to Aireys and the Surf Coast will feature more special guests, including actor and media personality Glenn Robbins, sports media professionals Neil Kearney and Luke Darcy, and Supreme Court Justice Rita Incerti.<\/p>\n

The festival program also includes art and crafts, musical tributes including Beatlemania, salsa and line-dancing sessions, amazing cultural and taste experiences \u2013 all to celebrate Aireys’ environment, wonderful businesses and community groups.<\/p>\n
