INTERESTED crowd wandered through the grounds of the Torquay Improvement Association (TIA) last month as the long-running organisation held an open day.<\/p>\n
The event, held at the TIA\u2019s premises on Price\u00a0Street, was also the official opening of the TIA\u2019s\u00a0new building at the rear of the block, which was named after long-serving member Lesley McQuinn.<\/p>\n
TIA secretary Lynda O\u2019Flaherty also gave a presentation on the group\u2019s history.<\/p>\n
The TIA hall was built by its members in the\u00a01890s, where it became a focal point for activities in the then-growing town of Torquay.<\/p>\n
The spaces are heavily used by community groups from Torquay and elsewhere including dance, karate, church, singing, exercise and dancing clubs.<\/p>\n
