NICK Callahan’s pathway into plumbing shows how hands-on training, commitment and a calm approach can lead to real career opportunities.<\/p>\n

Through his studies at The Gordon, Nick has built the skills and confidence needed to excel with his apprenticeship at David Parker Plumbing.<\/p>\n

Based in Colac and the Surf Coast, David Parker Plumbing is led by David Parker, who brings more than 30 years of industry experience.<\/p>\n

Under his guidance, Nick has developed both technical capability and professionalism on the job.<\/p>\n

David has been particularly impressed by Nick’s maturity and commitment to training.<\/p>\n

“When I go on-site, our clients are so impressed with Nick. They love his personability on the job and how he takes the time to understand and address their needs,” David said.<\/p>\n

“As a small business owner these are standout moments and make us so proud.”<\/p>\n

Nick’s dedication has not gone unnoticed. His standout achievements were recently recognised by The Gordon, where he was awarded the Plumbing Excellence Award at the Gordon Excellence Awards, a testament to both his skill and work ethic.<\/p>\n

It is a sentiment shared by plumbing teacher Andrew Smith.<\/p>\n

“Nick shows remarkable dedication and maturity throughout his training,” Andrew said. “He consistently finishes his practical tasks and always delivers work to a high standard.”<\/p>\n

If you’re looking to enter the industry and secure an apprenticeship, The Gordon offers a range of Free TAFE eligible pre-apprenticeship courses.<\/p>\n

These courses are a great way to build confidence and improve your chance of securing an apprenticeship, offering introductory skills and knowledge in a chosen trade.<\/p>\n

Delivered at The Gordon’s East Geelong campus, the plumbing pre-apprenticeship runs three days per week over four months.<\/p>\n

Commencing in August, the course combines practical, hands-on learning with essential technical knowledge, giving students a real taste of the trade prior to entering the industry.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on his journey, Nick highlighted the value of his plumbing training at The Gordon.<\/p>\n

“The combination of hands-on experience and technical knowledge gave me the confidence and skills I need to succeed and I’d highly recommend the course to anyone considering plumbing as a career,” he said.<\/p>\n

Nick’s story demonstrates how training at The Gordon can open doors and set the foundation for his ultimate long-term goal of taking over the business.<\/p>\n

From developing foundational skills to gaining recognition through the Gordon Excellence Awards, his journey shows what’s possible with the right support and a commitment to study.<\/p>\n
