RIDERS will have to wait a little longer to test out the Ocean Grove District Ride Centre, with the facility’s opening delayed from mid-June until August.<\/p>\n
The City of Greater Geelong said challenging weather conditions had slowed work on the project and more time was needed to “get it right”.<\/p>\n
“When designing and delivering projects like this, community safety is our number one priority,” the city’s executive director of city infrastructure James Stirton said.<\/p>\n
“We understand many members of the community are looking forward to this project, which we now expect to open during August.”<\/p>\n
Located in Kingston Park, the facility was originally expected to open in June.<\/p>\n
The project has been several years in the making and follows sustained demand from local riders for a dedicated facility.<\/p>\n
The project, which has been described as one of the best facilities of its kind in Australia, is being delivered by mountain bike trail design and construction company World Trail.<\/p>\n
It will feature a network of pump tracks, jumps and flowing trail lines designed to cater for riders of all ages and skill levels, from beginners through to experienced users.<\/p>\n
The City of Greater Geelong has already invested more than $3.5m in the project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
