Bass said adjusting to the Australian style of basketball had taken some time, but credited her teammates for helping her settle into the NBL1 competition.<\/p>\n
“It’s a little bit different of a playing style than I’ve grown up being taught in the states,” she said.<\/p>\n
“It’s a lot freer flowing here and almost individual skill based, so it took a little bit of adjusting. But I’ve had some great teammates to help me along the way.”<\/p>\n
Bass has spent most of her career playing in the frontcourt, but said United coach Megan Moody had encouraged her to broaden her game and become a more versatile player.<\/p>\n
“I felt like I’ve been pigeonholed into being the post player specifically, but Megan has helped me kind of expand my range, give me confidence in shooting more outside shots, as well as just attacking the rim and being more aggressive,” Bass said.<\/p>\n
With four rounds remaining, United sits second-last on the ladder with a 4-13 record and finals out of reach. Bass believes there is still plenty for the young squad to gain from the remainder of the season.<\/p>\n
“Right now, us going and playing in the finals tournament isn’t an option,” she said.<\/p>\n
“So I would say [our focus is] doing some damage to some of those teams that beat us the first time around that we’ll see again.<\/p>\n
“Stealing some wins here and there and really getting something out of the year development-wise for our younger kids [is key] as well because we are such a young team.”<\/p>\n
