The Liberal Party has finally named its candidate for Geelong ahead of November’s state election, preselecting Piano Bar owner Andy Pobjoy to contest the seat.<\/p>\n

Pobjoy will challenge Labor MP Christine Couzens, who retained Geelong with 46 per cent of first-preference votes at the 2022 election.<\/a><\/p>\n

Pobjoy<\/a> confirmed to this masthead on Tuesday morning that he would stand for the Liberals.<\/p>\n

With fewer than 150 days until Victorians go to the polls, Pobjoy is the first Liberal candidate to be announced<\/a> for any of the Geelong region’s Labor-held lower house seats.<\/p>\n

The Liberals currently hold 28 seats in Victoria’s lower house and need to win 17 more to secure a majority government and deny Labor a fourth consecutive term.<\/p>\n
