FRESH state funding and a finalised concept design have pushed the Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club redevelopment closer to construction.<\/p>\n
The Victorian government has committed additional funding to the project through its 2026\u201327 state budget, while the Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority (VIDA) has completed a preferred concept design following a workshop with the club and project architects.<\/p>\n
VIDA has also held a pre-application meeting with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action to discuss approvals required under the Marine and Coastal Act, another step in progressing the redevelopment.<\/p>\n
The project will replace the club’s existing back beach base with a modern facility designed to support lifesaving operations, improve community access and cater for Point Lonsdale’s growing population and increasing visitor numbers.<\/p>\n
Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club assistant secretary Andrew Sutherland said the redevelopment would provide a purpose-built facility better suited to the club’s future needs.<\/p>\n
“While the main building will be located slightly further from the beach, the new small patrol tower will provide significantly improved beach observation, enhancing the club’s ability to keep beachgoers safe,” he said.<\/p>\n
“We are very grateful to the state government for its recent additional funding to address the site’s complexities in replacing this important community asset, and we look forward to seeing the project completed by the end of 2027.”<\/p>\n
Bellarine MP Alison Marchant said the latest funding commitment would help deliver modern facilities for volunteers and the community.<\/p>\n
