CUT the shackles and let your imagination run free – that’s the message to filmmakers on the Bellarine, Geelong and Surf Coast regions from the curator of a new program hosted by the North Bellarine Film Festival.<\/p>\n
Called the Animation + Experimental + Avant Garde film program, it is being curated by awardwinning Portarlington-based filmmaker David King whose films EXIT and To The End Of Time featured in last year’s festival.<\/p>\n
The program is calling for entries from local filmmakers who have until September 10 to get their works in. King said he had already filled nearly half the program with \u201cabsolutely mind-blowing works\u201d from Europe, Asia, and the USA, but wanted local filmmakers to have the opportunity to showcase their work as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere aren’t many places in Australia for filmmakers to screen experimental or avant garde works these days so it’s a rare opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n
Films should be submitted in digital format and can be from any year and up to 15 minutes in length.<\/p>\n
There are no entry fees.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf your work is selected, you’ll be screening alongside some of the very best from overseas and interstate,\u201d King said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of the animation work we have is jus jaw-dropping.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said he wanted to dispel the myth that experimental and avant garde films were \u201ctoo hard\u201d for the average person.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese works are entertaining, thought-provoking, eye-catching and totally amazing. Boredom is not on the menu.\u201d<\/p>\n
The program will screen at Portarlington Neighborhood House on Sunday November 18 from 2pm to 4pm. \u201cWe wanted to screen in Portarlington to take advantage of the ferry bringing filmmakers and audience members from Melbourne,\u201d King said.<\/p>\n
