WHILE the Queenscliffe Neighbourhood House is a unique place for learning, the centre also supports a number of initiatives throughout the community.<\/p>\n
These initiatives include The Road Home \u2013 a project to end homelessness locally, a Men\u2019s Shed Bike Repair Group and a craft group that knits items for various organisations.<\/p>\n
The Road Home Project provides warmth and dignity to those experiencing homelessness. The Neighbourhood House is again participating in this project by being a collection point for blankets, coats, hats and scarves as well as toiletries.<\/p>\n
Other collection points include Prestige Jayco at 182-194 Bellarine Highway in Newcomb, Ocean Grove Primary School at 23 Draper Street in Ocean Grove and Springdale Community Centre at 17 High Street, Drysdale.<\/p>\n
Queenscliffe Neighbourhood House\u2019s Men\u2019s Shed Bike Repair Group also fixes bikes to send them to Namibia on the West African coast under the Bikes for Humanity Program.<\/p>\n
Others are repaired and donated to refugees living in Geelong through an organisation called Diversitat. Bikes that are in excellent condition are sold, with the money raised going towards the Light Up a Life Program, which is a weekend activity break for young refugees in our area.<\/p>\n
And lastly, the Mixed Craft Group is seeking donations of 8 ply wool to enable them to continue knitting items for various organisations, including Cottage by the Sea, Geelong Mums, the Royal Flying Doctor\u2019s Service and Refugees Aid.<\/p>\n
