A NEW nursing course is coming to Geelong, with VFA\u2019s first intake set to begin the 18-month course from September.<\/p>\n
Twenty-four enrolled nursing students will start the course at the Yarra Street Campus, which will give them the opportunity to undertake vocational training to qualify and work in the healthcare industry.<\/p>\n
Diploma graduates will meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, 2016 Standards form Practice: Enrolled Nurses.<\/p>\n
VFA Learning\u2019s Head of Nursing and Health, Charisse Spence, discussed the course, their exceptional Simulation Laboratory, and how choosing VFA Learning would give nursing hopefuls a leg-up in the industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have four beds in our Simulation Lab, each with medium fidelity manikins,\u201d Ms Spence said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe sim lab provides students with a safe learning environment to practice their clinical skills.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe lab operates with a maximum of 12 students, providing an excellent trainer-to-student ratio.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis ensures students are well supported as they develop the practical aspects of the EN course.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Spence said using clinical simulation gave students some exposure to a clinical setting prior to commencing their professional placement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is important because when students go out on placement they are able to draw on these skills to really optimise their placement experience,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
VFA Learning has established credit transfer pathways with Deakin University for the Bachelor of Nursing.<\/p>\n
Students who want to qualify as a Registered Nurse will be able to apply for up to eight credits towards a Bachelor or Nursing, allowing them to complete the Bachelor in two years instead of three years.<\/p>\n
Course graduates can work in a variety of healthcare industries, such as aged care, acute care, mental health, maternity, emergency, general practice clinics, paediatrics, and rehabilitation, among others<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
