BOROUGH of Queenscliffe Mayor Susan Salter is on a mission to raise awareness of Cancer Council Victoria\u2019s findings that one third of cancers can be prevented.<\/p>\n
Cr Salter said her life was saved by BreastScreen Australia, the national breast cancer screening program, and she encouraged all women to participate in this free program.<\/p>\n
Free screening programs are also available for bowel and cervical cancer. Additionally, research has revealed that making some simple lifestyle changes can help to reduce the risk of certain cancers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith one in three Victorians developing cancer by the age of 75, every step you take to reduce your cancer risk is incredibly beneficial to your health,\u201d Cr Salter said.<\/p>\n
Cancer Council Victoria also provide a free information and support phone service on 13 11 20.<\/p>\n
\u201cFinding the right support when it\u2019s needed isvital for cancer patients and those close to them as they deal with the news of a diagnosis,\u201d Cr Salter said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI encourage our residents to access the services and programs available through organisations like Cancer Council Victoria.\u201d<\/p>\n
