CURLEWIS residents campaigning for traffic lights to be installed at a dangerous intersection have launched a petition.<\/p>\n
Local David Thomson started the \u201cBetter Traffic Management at Hermsley\/Curlewis Roads Intersection\u201d petition on change.org at the weekend.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is well-known that the Hermsley\/Curlewis roads intersection is highly dangerous and unsafe,\u201d Mr Thomson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis has been made worse by a set of traffic lights 100 metres up from the intersection that (Bellarine MP) LisaNeville installed for the rail trail users, even though a vastmajority decide not to use them.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is always trouble for road users tryingto enter the highway at this intersection.<\/p>\n
Severalcomplaints to Lisa Neville have resulted innothing happening.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter talking to Brian McKitterick, Liberalcandidate for Bellarine, I have been asked to getpetitions going, which will be given to SimonRamsay, Member for Western Victoria.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lea Kilby commented in support that the\u201cmoney would have been better spent installing the lights at that intersection and not 100 metres up the road where they benefit very few people.\u201d<\/p>\n
The residents say several accidents have already occurred at the intersection of Portarlington and Hermsley roads, and that it was only a matter of time before someone dies.<\/p>\n
